“Kunst an der Kante” – featuring the project: Glimpses of a New Beginning
From August 13 to 17, 2025, the Old Harbor of Bremerhaven becomes an open-air gallery as part of the maritime festival SAiL 2025.
The collective exhibition “Kunst an der Kante” brings together the creative voices of many artists—including my contribution: Glimpses of a New Beginning. Along the harbor, artist-designed sails sway in the wind and shimmer with meaning, offering reflections on change, renewal, and shared expression.

Glimpses of a New Beginning is an artistic reflection on hope, renewal, and the unstoppable power of light. The central element of the piece, a golden circle, symbolizes perfection and the sun as a source of warmth and energy. It represents life that continues to shine despite darkness, illuminating the path toward a new future. The golden hue reinforces this message and adds a powerful, almost spiritual dimension to the work. The Korean characters “희망 Hee Mang” – meaning hope – are integrated into the sailcloth, connecting language, emotion, and cultural identity. Their placement on the permeable fabric makes hope tangible yet mobile—almost floating like an idea or feeling that spreads and claims space. Through this interplay of symbolism and materiality, Glimpses of a New Beginning invites viewers to reflect on personal renewal. It conveys the assurance that every dark phase will eventually be pierced by light and that every ending is the threshold to a new beginning. The golden circle is not centered but slightly offset, so only about three-quarters of it is visible on the sail. This detail significantly enhances the impact of the work, as the incomplete form creates a compelling composition. This arrangement could be seen as a metaphor for hope—it doesn’t have to be perfect to have a strong presence. On the contrary, it seems to hint at future possibility, capable of expanding or shifting depending on light and movement. This positioning deepens the artwork’s message: the hidden parts ignite the imagination and remind us that hope is always close by, even when it only partially reveals itself. Glimpses of a New Beginning speaks not only through its visual language—it carries a universal message: hope knows no borders. It is radiant, powerful, and accessible to all who are willing to see it.
